March 16 Missed year blogging but need to get back07' was a really good year. The trip to Alaska was the highlight. We had a great time. We rented a motorhome and logged over 2500 miles inside the state of Alaska. I won't go into the details as it could be an entire blog. Our new house is awesome. It was out far enough away from everything to be great starting point for some good rides and runs. I got a memberhip at Genesys and that has really helped my swimming. I did the indoor triathlon at Genesys yesterday to kind of kick off the season. I did pretty well but we could stay for the awards because we had to go to Skylers celebration for the end of his basketball season. I called up there and they said I won my age group but I am more interested in how I did in the overall. I will find out later.
To catch things up with regard to triathlon. I have had more stuggles with my weight the last year than ever. My Boston was darn near 4 hours and I did no tri's. I decided to try to qualify for Boston at Vegas and I had sore knee that never healed enough for me to train at the level you need to run a 3:30. That is where I left off in 07'. 08' however is looking up. The knee is fine...the weight needs work but the times are coming down and the training volume is going up with no problems. The big anouncement is I was able to get into Ironman Arizona on Nov 26, 2008. I am going to use the blog to like I did before to keep an eye on my progress and see if I can better my time from 06'. It is crazy that I am approaching 50. I feel really good...there are signs of age of course but I feel better than I ever expected at that age. The wonderful thing is the kids are doing so great and Sue is completely supportive.
Sue has been training very hard since after Vegas. She has benn getting up around 5:00 and hitting the tread. She is in the gym 4-6 time per week and she is signed up for a long list of races. I think she may be putting in as many hours as I am right now. She is dealing with the fact that gains are hard fought. She will see how much more fun the whole lifestyle is when your fitness improves. It is rubbing off on the kids and I am very proud of her. She is not the type of person that bounces in out of things. I am convinced this will be a permanent part of her now and our family. I didn't ask for it or expect it but it is wonderful now that she is doing it.
